Journal Submission Guidelines

Word lengths will vary according to article type and author preference. Full research articles, however, should generally be no longer than 8,000 words (including references and appendices). For longer articles, authors should contact the editors before submitting.

Please follow APA 7 style for references and formatting. In addition:

  • Manuscript: Clear font (e.g., Calibri), 12-point font, double-spaced, page numbers bottom right.
  • Title Page: Submit as a separate document, including the article title, author name(s), affiliation(s), and email address(es). Please also provide a short biography (around 50 words) for each author.
  • Abstracts: At initial submission, include an abstract in the original language of the paper (English or Japanese) only. Do not submit translated abstracts at this stage. Upon acceptance, authors will be required to provide an abstract in the other language. Both abstracts will then be checked before publication.
  • Headings, Citations, References: Follow APA 7 conventions. Include DOIs where available.
  • Appendices: Place after References.

Note that articles can be written in either Japanese or English. Authors should focus on effectively conveying their ideas and insights by ensuring that the content is accessible and understandable. Clear organisation and thoughtful explanations can contribute to the accessibility of the content. We encourage authors to provide contextual explanations or definitions of terms that may be unfamiliar to readers outside of their specific research or teaching context. We recognise and value diverse voices, perspectives, and ways of using English.

Generative AI tools must not be used for data generation, data analysis, or the production of substantive content. Any use of AI, for example, language editing or formatting support, must be acknowledged in an author statement at the end of the submission.
